Attorney John W. Carpenter was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from De La Salle High School where he developed a passion for math and science. After graduation, he attended Louisiana State University and earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Petroleum Engineering. John decided to continue his education and obtain a law degree from Loyola University New Orleans. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Military and served in Vietnam as a Naval Engineering Officer on a minesweeper and a Legal Officer on an Admiral’s staff. He was honorably discharged from the Navy as a Lieutenant. John is licensed to practice law in Louisiana, California, the District of Columbia, and has the admirable distinction of being a registered Patent Attorney with the USPTO.
John W. Carpenter has over 50 years of experience in arbitration and litigation of all aspects of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, and technology licensing agreements. He has prepared and prosecuted Foreign and U.S. patent applications in a wide variety of sectors, including chemical (organic and inorganic), veterinary medicine science, pharmaceutical, mechanical, electrical, semiconductor packaging and fabrication, computers, and software.
John has also testified as an expert witness in federal court as a patent and trade secret expert.
With extensive experience in the petroleum industry, John has prepared numerous process guaranteed agreements, chemical marketing agreements, and joint research agreements. He has represented clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Louisiana Public Service Commission, and has advised clients on the global marketing of petroleum products.
John career has not been limited to Intellectual Property matters as he has litigated high stakes personal injury, Jones Act, Maritime, and Antitrust claims.
As a man whose faith has always been important to him, John also holds a Masters of Arts in Theology from the University of San Francisco.
